Who doesn’t love a farmhouse coffee table with a nice set of turned legs?
These legs are super popular in the woodworking community and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on them. Thankfully, my friends over at Build Something are partnering with me to present the plans so you can create your own! Build Something is Kreg Tools plan site where you can find free plans for some awesome DIY furniture.
But first let’s talk about these legs! So thankful for the guys over at Osborne Wood Products for sending these over! Aren’t they just lovely? Be sure to go and check them out! They have an assortment of unfinished wood products including, but not limited to, legs, corbels, etc.
There are some affiliate links in this post, meaning I get a small commission if you purchase through these links, at no cost to you. Click Here to read my full disclosure.
But, before you head over to Build Something for the free plans, check out my process of building this coffee table and be sure to read about my favorite furniture finish technique!
To make sure the legs stayed in place I made sure to use my Bessey GSCC2.524 2.5-Inch x 24-Inch Economy Clutch Style Bar Clamp. These are by far my favorite clamps. Easy to use and they definitely get the job done! I left the clamps on for several hours just to make sure that the legs stay in place over time! You can never be too careful!
So I am sure that I say this very often..but I absolutely love my Kreg Jig K4 Pocket Hole System! It’s the one tool that I have used on every project and it makes life so much easier for me. When people ask me which tools are must-haves I always include the kreg jig because it has been one of my favorites! I also have the Kreg DB210 Foreman Pocket-Hole Machine, Blue, which is the kreg jig on steroids but I always still use my little baby.
This coffee table was super fun and easy to make! I love seeing the balustrade coffee tables every where but I didn’t want to build another one of those because I see them all the time! This design was a cool way to use the same legs but switch it up just a bit!
Another one of my fav products to use is Dap 21506 Plastic Wood Filler, 16-Ounce! Let me tell you I tried almost every type of wood filler before I tried this stuff lol and trust me the process along the way wasn’t pretty! Hear me out when I say this is the good stuff!
Ladies and gentlemen, I am sharing my all-time favorite finish technique! I absolutely love how it turned out on this coffee table! It really gives it that restoration hardware type look.
First I started out painting the coffee table with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint! I know what your thinking..”that stuff is expensive ” and your right it is! But I just love the way it looks after I finished it off with the gel stain. I am sure this technique would work with any other chalk paint but I have only used Annie Sloan. 285140 Rust-Oleum Ultra Matte Interior Chalked Paint 30 oz, Linen White is a little bit cheaper so feel free to try it out with that! (Let me know how it goes.))
Next, after the chalk paint finished drying, I took a cloth and wiped it down with Old Masters 24991 80704 Gel Stain, Dark Walnut, 1 quart Make sure you wipe it on good because if you wipe it on sloppy you will be able to tell, but it gives the coffee table a great rich look. After I finished wiping it down with the gel stain I coated it with Minwax Polycrylic Matte.
Over the past few days I’ve been reading some blogs and all the fantastic things parents have been doing with their kids. My time with Sylvia is often limited to evenings after school and weekends and is then determined by how my health is each day.
To make sure we have lots of family fun despite being ill I have to plan. This is where the quote above comes in. I can dream of having more fun with my daughter and set a goal to spend more time with her but if I don’t plan anything, it wont happen and will just be a nice thought.
So after sitting down together we have planned 15 things we want to do in the lead up to Christmas. This is our Christmas Bucket List.
Go to a Pantomine
Make some Christmas Decorations
Make a secret santa gift
Make our Christmas Hampers
Read ten Christmas Books
Have a Christmas Movie night
Visit Santa at a Grotto
Make some Reindeer and Snowman Poop! (with marshmallows and chocolate raisins)
Make a Christmas present for Grandma
Write a letter to Santa
Do some Christmas baking
Create some Christmas outfits for Sylvia’s dolls
write Christmas cards for Sylvia’s school friends together
Make a Christmas parcel for Sylvia’s Cousins in New Zealand
Here are the things I’d realistically like to achieve by the end of the year. This is my Blogging Bucket List.
By December I would like to have 500 followers on Facebook. This is the one social network I struggle with and have not even attempted to try and build yet. My FB page is growing slowly and organically and 500 is a nice figure in my mind!
By the end of my first year of blogging, I’d like to have 8000 followers on Twitter.
I would like to change my blog template before my one year anniversary. (Start of January)
I hope to have the illustrations completed for my first book. Yes, I’ve not mentioned it up until now but I am working on a book which I hope to publish in 2017.
I hope to have grown my Instagram to 1000 followers.
I hope to have written an additional 4 Guest Posts. So far I have done two.
I hope to be contacted by a PR/BRAND (and get a christmas gift for my daughter).
I hope to have made my initial contact with Medtronic (The company- I need to impress in order for them to miraculously agree to giving me a free Adrenal Pump in 2016) You never know! They just might if I keep growing my following and doing my best. It’s worth a shot!
I hope to have received the money for two posts I wrote in August that I’m still waiting to get paid for.
I hope to get published on THE MIGHTY- a popular website which posts articles written by people with chronic illness, health conditions and or disabilities. This may be very difficult to achieve but I’ll try
I hope to find the time to have a media pack made. Yep, I still have not done one but I hope to have this sorted by December at least.
To have found a sponsor to help cover the costs of attending the MumpreneurUK Conference in November. I just found out last week that I am a finalist in the Voice category and so it would be lovely to attend and stay in accommodation close by so I can split the day up and rest part way through and have somewhere to get ready for the awards etc.
Well this is quite a lot and as Debbie who tagged me said in her post, some things may take a little longer or may run over into next year but that’s okay. If i have goals then I have something to look towards.
A few weeks ago I was tagged by Laura from Laura’s Lovely Blog to write this post, 8 Photos of Happiness. I was really excited to be tagged for this one as I love sharing photos and it’s an opportunity to look back on happy times.
Thankyou Laura for the tag and I hope you enjoy my pictures. Angela xx
This is me with my parents, my sister and her husband and my two brothers. I live far away from my family as we migrated to New Zealand in 1995 and I returned to the UK in 2010.This photo makes me happy and is a nice reminder of those that I love and miss.
Next is a photo of my daughter Sylvia when I still called her peanut. At the time i did not know whether i was having a girl or a boy so peanut was the name.
This was Sylvia’s first Christmas. It was a sad time because it was when I separated from Sylvia’s birth father and took out a protection order but it was a happy time as I was on my own and always listened to Leona lewis Song Happy which made me happy.
This was on tour in Paris with Sylvia. When Sylvia was 18 month, we went travelling to different countries and this was a great experience full of happy memories.
This is another travel Photo. This time we were in Amsterdam and had just been on a boat ride which was very cool.
This is a picture of John and I taken around the time we got engaged. We were both so excited and happy to have found one another.
Here is a lovely wedding photo. This was the best and most happiest day ever and a week before I collapsed and was diagnosed with Adrenal failure.
This is me at my daughter’s school play. I don’t get out much due to illness and it was wonderful to be able to go and see Sylvia perform as an angel. I loved it.
These photos make me happy but it also makes me really sad because I see my life and how different it is now I am unwell and on steroids. Not wanting to put a negative spin on it but I really do hope to get better treatment one day so I can feel happier about myself once more and go places and do things like I used to. No matter what though, I’ll always try to be happy and positive no matter what life throws at me.
